Wen Rivero Pena was selected as a semi-finalist for the Leader of the Pack 2021 award, which has honored and recognized students’ outstanding contributions in leadership, scholarship, and service at NC State dating back to the 1990s. Wen was selected based on their contributions to the GLBT Center’s research on LGBTQ+ international students, co-chairing Dairy Bar, and being a small Pack Leader for the Office of International Students at NCSU.

Wen Rivero Pena won the third prize during the IFT Nonthermal Processing Division student poster competition held during IFT FIRST, for the work “Comparison of cold atmospheric pressure plasma (CAPP) and plasma-activated mist (PAM) for inactivation of E. coli DH5α, Listeria innocua, and Salmonella Typhimurium”

Wen Rivero was awarded 1st place for the Homegrown Award at the PackPics Competition at NC State for their research infographic on “cold-plasma based technology for hydroponic sweet basil growth”.

Wen Rivero was awarded 3rd place in a poster presentation competition held during the 8th Latin American Research Symposium at NC State, where they presented research on using plasma-activated water for post-harvest washing of sprouts.
